Paxi girls 12th, boys 19th in RPI standings

The Cotopaxi girls basketball team is ranked 12th in the official Class 1A RPI standings this week. RPI helps in determining the postseason field.

The Pirates are 13-3 overall and 7-1 in District 6 play, having lost to league foe Sangre de Cristo a few weeks ago, 34-27. Cotopaxi trails Sangre de Cristo, ranked fifth in the RPI standings, in the league standings.

After 13 games, Koylynn Gulliford leads the team in scoring at 16.2 points per game. Shealee Coleman and Claire Carlson are each averaging more than 9 points a game.

Gulliford leads the Pirates in rebounds, averaging 8.2 per game. Annalise Walker is next with 3.7 rebounds a game and Sage Laymon is pulling down 3.3 boards.

Claire Carlson leads the team in steals and assists per game — 3.1 and 5.2 respectively.

The Cotopaxi boys basketball team, 10-5 overall and 5-2 in District 6 play, is ranked 19th in the RPI standings.

Chance Gulliford leads the team in scoring through 15 games, averaging 19.3 points per game. Peter Belt is next at 6.9, with Jonah Bertolino at 6.1. Ty Coleman is averaging 4.9 points.

Gulliford is averaging 12.1 rebounds a game; Bertolino is next at 5.1.

Bertolino is the team leader in steals with 2.5 per game and second behind Belt in assists at 2.2.

The Cotopaxi boys and girls are in action on Thursday night when they travel to Westcliffe to take on Custer County in nonleague games.
