Carlson to run track for the Grizzlies

Cotopaxi High School senior Claire Carlson has signed a letter of intent to run track at Adams State College in Alamosa.

Carlson, who also played volleyball and basketball during her prep career, joins classmate Chance Gulliford, who will play baseball for the Grizzlies.

As a high school freshman, Carlson finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles and seventh in the triple jump at the 2017 Class 1A state track meet.

She was second in the 100-meter hurdles, eighth in the long jump, third in the triple jump and eighth in the 4x200-meter relay in 2018.

As a junior in 2019, Carlson placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, third in the long jump, fourth in the triple jump and fourth in the 4x100-meter relay.

“It means a lot to me to finally pick a college to attend and know that I will be continuing track at a higher level,” Carlson said. “I’m thankful for my coaches, family and everyone who helped me get here.”

Carlson, who will study business, thinks she’ll compete at Adams State in many of the same events as she did in high school.
